Instructions
Download the PDF pattern. Print the pattern ensuring you do not check the box on the print dialogue that says "Scale to Fit" or "Fit to Page" and check that the test box has printed at the correct size of 5cm.
Step 1.
Lay your outer fabric right side to right side.
Measure from the bottom of the fabric 30cms and pin.
Again, measure from the bottom of the fabric 33cms. Mark with a pin. Repeat for the other side and the bag lining.
Leaving the top of the bag open, stitch down the left side, the bottom and the right side. Back stitch close to the pins to reinforce the opening. Do not stitch between the two pins as this will become the channel for your ribbon.
Step 2.
Align the side and bottom seam together to create a triangle. Measure 4cms in and pin.
Do this on the other side. Stitch, back stitch and trim the corner.
Repeat for the outer bag.
Press the sides open.
Step 3.
Put the bag lining into the outer bag and push it into the base, wrong side to wrong side. Align the seams and the channel openings. Pin in place.
Turn the top of the bag in 1.5cms and press. Repeat for the lining. They should match up.
Top stitch around the top of the bag and stitch the two sides of the channel ensuring that you back stitch close to the openings.
Step 4.
Using a bodkin, safety pin or a 1970's nappy pin, pull the ribbon through the channel.
If there is writing on the ribbon, just check its the right way up!
Step 5.
You can tie a knot in the ribbon or zig zag across the two ends which will lay flatter. Pull the ribbon through the bag to hide the join.
Repeat for the other side.
Wow!
A wine bag isn't just for Christmas, you can make it reversible to give someone bubbles for their birthday!
