Description

Bring a vintage texture to your sewing with sandwashed cotton fabric. This 100% cotton fabric is soft and breathable and has been washed with sand to give it a wonderful textured look and feel.

Wash between 30 and 60 degrees. Washing at a higher temperature may cause more shrinkage and print fade.

Iron on a cotton setting

Tumble dry on cool to medium heat. Drying at a higher temperature may cause more shrinkage.

Sandwashed cotton is a beautifully soft woven fabric that has been specially finished to create a textured, gently worn-in feel. Unlike traditional crisp cotton, it has a softer handle and more relaxed drape, giving garments a lovely lived-in look from the very first wear.

If you want the breathability and practicality of cotton with a softer, more relaxed finish, sandwashed cotton is an excellent choice.

Why Choose Sandwashed Cotton?

• Beautifully soft, smooth finish
• Breathable and comfortable against the skin
• Relaxed drape compared with crisp cotton
• Casual, lived-in appearance with natural character

Perfect For

✔ Relaxed dresses
✔ Shirts and blouses
✔ Wide leg trousers
✔ Skirts and pinafores
✔ Children's clothing
✔ Casual co-ord sets

Sandwashed cotton is ideal for garments that need the comfort and versatility of cotton with a softer, less structured appearance.

Sewing Notes

Sandwashed cotton is generally stable and easy to handle, making it a lovely choice for beginners and experienced sewists alike.

• Use a universal needle (70/10 or 80/12)
• Prewash to allow for any shrinkage
• Finish raw edges to prevent fraying
• Press gently to preserve the soft, relaxed finish

It's a fantastic fabric for sewists who love working with cotton but want a softer, more fluid result without the slipperiness of viscose.

The Finish You're After

If you're looking for breathable comfort, effortless style and a beautifully softened finish, sandwashed cotton delivers relaxed elegance with everyday practicality.
