What is Cotton Poplin and How Can I Use It?
About Fabric Love
Established in 2015, we are a small, independent fabric shop in Colchester, Essex, UK dedicated to providing our customers with great quality, affordable fabrics along with fabulous customer service and super fast delivery!
With a combined wealth of over 50 years sewing experience between us, we have a real passion for what we do and enjoy sharing our love of sewing and crafting with our lovely customers!
Popular with dressmakers, crafters and quilters, cotton poplin is a close weave, soft to touch, lightweight, natural and renewable fabric which offers a certain luxurious quality to your sewing projects.
Like most cotton fabrics, poplin is easy to sew and when used for dressmaking, it has a nice drape plus being 100% cotton, is cool to wear. Being strong and durable, it is popular in children's clothing and is often printed with beautiful designs.
Our favourite cotton poplin design house is Rose and Hubble who produce great quality floral prints and children's printed fabrics. Shown above is a selection of sewing projects our lovely customers have shared with us over the years, all made with cotton poplin fabrics purchased here at Fabric Love.
The cotton poplins in the above photos have been used for a variety of purposes from a beautiful pink and blue quilt to a bag (which was strengthened with Heat n Bond fusible fleece). Many of our customers make dresses for their little girls as the fabric is soft to the touch and lovely to sew with and customers have also sent us photos of manicure cases and even a teddy bear!
